1. Xoloitzcuintli

The Xoloitzcuintli, or Mexican Hairless Dog, is an ancient breed dating back over 3,000 years to the Aztec civilization. This is a natural breed, not a product of modern breeding. The Aztecs believed these dogs guided souls to the afterlife. They come in hairless and coated varieties, in toy, miniature, and standard sizes. Their exposed skin requires protection from sunburn. Xolos are intelligent, loyal, and calm, with a higher body temperature that makes them excellent therapy dogs. Their unique appearance and deep history make them truly one-of-a-kind.
