3. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

Soaring 305 meters above the Arkansas River, Colorado’s Royal Gorge Bridge is the highest suspension bridge in the United States—a true testament to American daring. Built in 1929, its wooden planks and steel cables offer a thrilling—and exposed—walk across the chasm.
The bridge is the centerpiece of Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, which also features a visitor center, gondolas, and zip lines. After a devastating fire in 2013, the park was rebuilt with the bridge preserved as its iconic heart. It remains both a historic landmark and an adrenaline-pumping destination.
