Tskaltubo, located in Western Georgia, has been associated with legends of therapeutic waters since the 600s. However, it wasn't until the city was annexed by the state that its potential was fully realized. In 1931, Tskaltubo was designated as a spa resort by the Georgian Soviet Republic, leading to the construction of nine baths, a resort park, and nineteen sanatoriums and pensions, transforming it into a popular destination for health and wellness.

At one point, Tskaltubo even catered to Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, highlighting its historical significance. However, after the fall of the USSR, the resort saw a dramatic decline, with only about 700 visitors annually, leaving it virtually deserted. Today, while a large portion of the buildings is repurposed to house refugees, spa services are still offered at an affordable rate of $59 per night. Tskaltubo has certainly come a long way from its days of splendor.
